Moonlight TV Show stars Alex O’Loughlin as Mick St. John, a private investigator who happens to be a vampire. In the opening scene, Mick dreams of an interview (with Big Brother’s Julie Chen no less) where he lays down his life story and settles a few urban legends about vampires. Mick buys his blood and doesn’t actually kill humans. He can see a little bit in the past and a little bit in the future, which makes him a better P.I. And he likes garlic and doesn’t burst into flames in the sun (but can’t hang out in it for too long without getting sick). The pilot as expected packs in a lot of info: we’re introduced to Mick’s morally darker friend Josef (Veronica Mars’ Jason Dohring); we see a flashback to the woman (Shannon Sossamon) who turned Mick into a vampire; and we meet someone that Mick crossed paths with years ago (Sophia Myles), who will likely be a love interest in the future.

Art School Confidential’s Sophia Myles saves Moonlight from complete disaster, giving a charming and interesting performance as Beth Turner, a reporter investigating a series of murders surrounding a vampire cult. Myles has an easy-going onscreen charisma that’s different from your standard TV actresses. It never feels like she’s trying too hard. If there’s a real reason to watch Moonlight in the future, it’ll be for her.
Moonlight aims high, but doesn’t get off the ground the way it should not just because of the deja vu of its concept, but because it’s so generically done. O’Loughlin seems to be doing his best, but he doesn’t have a presence that a show like this needs to survive. There are two ‘twists’ to the pilot of Moonlight that most fans will see coming from miles away. It’s like Angel with all the sexual tension and dark humor removed. As much as we were hoping for an amazing premiere, it’s clear Moonlight is trying to fill a void that Angel left but needs much more of bite to lure in fans.

Reading this review, I’m surprised ANYBODY took a chance and watched Moonlight….but OMG what a fantastic show they would have missed! Moonlight got better & better with every episode. The only resemblance to Angel was being a vamp PI…Mick was so much more! And Alex O’Loughlin more than proved his ability to carry a show. The on-screen chemistry with Sophia Myles was wonderful and Mick’s relationship with Josef (Jason Dohring) was a joy to watch! CBS lost out on leading the new parade of Vamp tv shows because they were STUPID! <>
